Simon (41) on the frustration of left-lane huggers: “Take away their license immediately!”

For Simon, driving means freedom and peace, but his calm often disappears when he encounters cars needlessly blocking the left lane on the highway.

The rules really aren’t that hard

Simon observes that many drivers ignore the simple rule: use the left lane only for overtaking and then return to the right. This careless behavior leads to dangerous situations and forces others to overtake on the right, which is unsafe and illegal.

Recognizing the type of driver

Simon notices a pattern: usually middle-aged or older drivers in grey station wagons drive just below the speed limit in the left lane without checking mirrors, causing long lines and tension among other drivers.

Why isn’t this enforced better?

He argues for stricter enforcement and higher fines for unnecessary left-lane driving, as it’s as dangerous as speeding. Drivers who don’t understand highway rules should face consequences to improve safety.

Is it about respect?

Simon believes the core issue is respect and courtesy on the road. Traffic requires cooperation, and making way for faster cars is basic courtesy, not weakness.

He hears many share his frustration, yet little change happens. Simon asks readers if his annoyance is justified or if he’s just impatient.
