PostNL to Stop Daily Mail Delivery: What This Means for You
PostNL Changes Its Postal Service
PostNL will soon change its mail delivery schedule from daily to every other day. This shift is driven by declining mail volume and a shortage of delivery workers, making daily delivery unsustainable. Director Maurice Unck explained the company is at its operational limit while ensuring service remains reliable and affordable. Though the new routine may take some adjustment, Unck expects people to adapt quickly.
How Will This Impact You?
Mail will now arrive every other day. Websites allowing you to design and send greeting cards will indicate delivery days. You can also check PostNL's website based on your postcode to see scheduled delivery days. If these do not suit your needs, you can opt to pay a fee for delivery on alternative days.
Will Costs Change?
Mail delivery prices are expected to increase, though the exact amount is not yet disclosed. Unck compared the rise to the higher rates seen with Sunday flower deliveries, attributing the decision to fewer letters and a rise in small package deliveries through the letterbox.
What About the Future and Regulations?
This is not the first time delivery frequency is cut back—previously reduced from six to five days a week. PostNL aims for two to three deliveries weekly eventually, pending government approval. Unck does not foresee major obstacles as this topic is no longer controversial and will be addressed soon. A long-term idea includes having central locations where people can collect mail.
