PVV Unveils Hardline Plan: Borders Closed, Asylum Seekers Sent Back, Military on the Streets

On May 29, 2025, Geert Wilders, leader of the Dutch Party for Freedom (PVV), ratcheted up political tensions with a striking ten-point action plan unfolded at a heated press conference. Carrying the telling title "The Limit Has Been Reached," Wilders’ message was uncompromising: the Dutch government must implement the toughest asylum policy in national history, or his party will break the governing coalition.

"Patience is Over"

According to Wilders, enough is enough. "Our patience is finished," he said, insisting that his party must fulfill the promises made to voters—no more delays, no more compromises. "The Dutch people did not vote for foot-dragging or half-measures. They want the strictest asylum policy ever. And that is what we will deliver."

Military at the Borders, Syrians Sent Back, Asylum Centers Closed

  • Immediate closure of the borders to asylum seekers.
  • Deployment of the military to support border controls, following the model of Germany.
  • Suspension of family reunification for refugees.
  • Existing asylum status holders currently in government shelters (AZCs) must be relocated within fourteen weeks, preferably to family or acquaintances.

One of the most controversial ideas is the forced return of over 60,000 Syrians to what he terms "safe parts" of Syria. Although heavily criticized by human rights groups and legal experts and possibly a violation of international treaties, Wilders calls this "necessary and logical."

Sacking Mayors, Stripping Citizenship

  • Mayors who, according to PVV, “get in the way of the police” should be dismissible.
  • People with dual nationality convicted of violent or sexual crimes will lose their Dutch citizenship and be deported.
  • The so-called asylum coercion act, which mandates municipalities to provide shelter, should be scrapped immediately. New asylum centers? Out of the question. “No more, nowhere,” says Wilders.

Open Political Ultimatum

The message to coalition partners VVD, NSC, and BBB is crystal clear: cooperate or collapse. Wilders has repeatedly hinted at a potential breaking point and is now drawing a hard line. “If this government becomes a weak copy of Rutte IV, we’re done,” he warns. He frames this not as a threat, but as a non-negotiable demand.

Poll Pressure and Impatience Within His Base

The timing is no coincidence—while PVV continues to poll strongly, support has dipped slightly and impatience is mounting within the party’s core supporters over the slow pace and content of coalition negotiations. Wilders’ offensive seems designed to underscore his image of decisiveness and inflexibility—placing pressure not only on PM Schoof and the coalition but rallying his own ranks.

Legal Barriers or Political Power Play?

Most of Wilders’ plans clash with European law, international treaties, and basic legal principles. Nonetheless, he positions himself as the only politician voicing what he claims "the people" want—publicly forcing his coalition partners to make a choice.

Exactly how VVD, NSC, and BBB will respond will become clear in the coming weeks. One thing is certain: this isn’t just a policy memo; it’s a political ultimatum that could lead to a government crisis. According to Wilders: from now on, it’s the PVV way, or no way.
