Egyptian Foreign Minister and Visiting Indian MPs Discuss Strategic Ties and Regional Security
On 2-3 June 2025, Egypt's Foreign and Emigration Minister Badr Abdelatty hosted a high-level Indian parliamentary delegation led by MP Supriya Sule. The visit aimed to reinforce bilateral relations and address pressing regional security issues including counter-terrorism efforts and the situation in South Asia.
Minister Abdelatty highlighted Egypt’s commitment to translating existing momentum into actionable steps to expand cooperation across various fields. He urged full activation of the Egypt-India strategic partnership to serve both nations' interests. Additionally, he called for fostering institutional cooperation at the parliamentary level to open new avenues for collaboration.
Expressing solidarity with India following the April 22, 2025 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, Abdelatty recounted supportive communications between Egypt's President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This demonstrated Egypt's firm stance against terrorism and commitment to joint counter-terrorism endeavors.
Abdelatty emphasized terrorism as one of humanity's gravest threats and praised Egypt’s comprehensive, experienced approach in combating violent extremism. Regarding the India-Pakistan ceasefire, he welcomed the de-escalation and peaceful dialogue to enhance South Asian stability.
Beyond official talks, the Indian delegation met with Egypt’s Ambassador to India, Suresh Reddy, Egyptian parliamentarians, former ministers, intellectuals, and think tanks including the Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs. These dialogues further explored terrorism challenges and deepened Egypt-India engagement.
The visit also included a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi in Cairo’s Al-Horreya Park and interaction with the Indian community in Egypt, reinforcing the value of international partnerships in defeating terrorism.
