Tragedy in Los Reyes: Two Young Women Killed in Christmas Caravan Accident
A festive night in Los Reyes, Michoacán, turned tragic on December 13th when a pickup truck, driven by a suspected intoxicated driver, struck a group of young people during the town’s annual Christmas caravan.
The accident occurred at the intersection of Torres Quintero and Nicolás Bravo streets in the Centro neighborhood. Two young women, Andrea (19) and Lorena (20), lost their lives, while three others sustained injuries. The driver fled the scene immediately after the incident.
Residents are mourning the loss and coming together to support the families. Lorena’s wake is planned for 1:30 p.m. at La Paz funeral home in La Zapata, with attendees encouraged to wear white in her honor.
Mayor Humberto Jiménez Solís declared the municipality in mourning and confirmed that the local government is closely working with the victims' families. Authorities are actively searching for the driver and urge the public to provide any information that could help bring justice.
The Michoacán State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) has launched investigations into charges of intentional and attempted homicide linked to this case. No suspect details have yet been disclosed.
