It seems that spring has taken a break and has made way for typical Dutch weather: rain, wind and grey skies. Forget that terrace for a moment, because this week it's mainly going to be making it cozy inside. After a weekend of pleasant weather, we now have to get the umbrella and raincoat out again. And if weatherwoman Laura Osinga is to be believed, we can't get rid of that for now. She warns of a wet and windy start to the week. But hey, at least you don't have to wash your windows yourself!

Heavy rain and gusts coming
Today, an active rain area moves across the country from west to east, providing the necessary wetness. In some places, up to 10 millimeters of rain can fall, which can cause considerable traffic problems during the morning and evening rush hours. As if traffic jams weren't annoying enough without slippery roads.
As if that were not enough, the wind is also blowing heavily. Wind force four is expected in the interior, while it can reach wind force six on the coast. That means it's better to lock your bike properly, unless you want to find it in the next province. In open areas and along the coast, nuisance is mainly expected, so a sturdy windbreaker is not an unnecessary luxury.

It's not until the afternoon that the rain clears and clears in many regions, and despite the turbulent weather, temperatures remain relatively mild. In the west and north, it will be a maximum of 9 to 10 degrees, while elsewhere it can reach 11 to 12 degrees. Not cold, but because of the strong wind, it still feels a lot fresher.
Rain continues
If you thought the bad weather was over after today, you are wrong. Tomorrow will be another wet day. A new rain area will again cross the country from west to east. Even then, the wind continues to blow, so that umbrella may remain within reach for a while.

The weather seems to be improving for a while on Wednesday, although heavy rainfall is expected again in the evening. The nights are getting colder, with a possible slight frost in the night from Wednesday to Thursday. This can cause smoothness, especially in the east and northeast. So that's what early birds are saying.
On Thursday, it will remain variable with alternating rain showers and clearings. The wind decreases slightly in strength, but remains clearly present. It is a week where the weather can go in any direction, except the bright side.
Weekend outlook
There is light at the end of the tunnel, as the weather seems to improve slightly towards the weekend. Although it does not stay completely dry, the showers are becoming less intense and the wind is decreasing in strength. Longer dry periods are coming, which makes it more pleasant to go outside.

So for now, it will remain wet and windy. Those who have to hit the streets today had better be well prepared. Umbrellas, raincoats and sturdy shoes are no luxury. But with a little patience, we may be able to expect slightly drier weather towards the weekend. And who knows, maybe grab that terrace after all... if the chairs haven't blown away.
